GALE Thomas, “Opuscula mythologica physica et ethica. Graece et Latine”, Amsterdam, Henricum Wetstenium, 1688. 8vo, pp. [26], 7-750, [8]. Impressive frontispiece, title-page printed in red & black with woodcut device, chapter ornaments, head & tailpieces, text in parallel columns in Latin & Greek.

First published at Cambridge in 1671, this enlarged 2nd edition  contains a significant collection of lesser-known and fragmentary classical verse including pieces from Heraclides, Palaephatus, Pythagoras and Theocritus.  

Imnpressive contemporary full vellum, boards paneled in gilt and with large blind-stamped emblem of the Latin school of Dordrecht “MINERVA DOR DRACENA”, spine decorated also in gilt. Very light external rubbing, 2 small holes on each board, interior in almost excellent condition.
