Folio, 35x23cm, pp.4. Smyrna slowly recovers. Even the Greeks can walk now in the streets. Detailed description of life in Smyrna during late summer 1822. Surprisingly, a Greek squadron enters Karaburnu, attacking two country properties near Clazomene, taking provisions and encountering an Ottoman squadron while exiting from the gulf. In the fierce battle three Turks die and several are wounded, while Greeks escape. The Muslims are furious. In Morea, the members of the government have found refuge in the frigate Amazone, as Argos was on fire. The news are dated in the late August and describe the two Turkish armies, of 40.000 and 20.000 men still active in Morea. Presentation of operations that leaded to their final defeat. The Greeks were fleeing, burning everything and escaping the military engagement. There are newly arrived reports, informing that a big Turkish army has been completely destroyed, but it is not confirmed yet. Even so, the Turks still hold the main castles of Methoni, Coroni and Patras and they can always send fresh reinforcements. The Greeks obviously cannot. They had trained 800 men in a European style army (300 still exist). The Greeks cannot properly defend correctly even the captured castles. Monembasia is in Greek hands, but Genakakis, the commander has only 40 soldiers and 150 villagers to defend it. Only 12 man are in the upper castle. If attacked it will be impossible to defend it. The Turks hold Koroni and Greeks just block it with few hundreds villagers around. In Negroponte, the Turks still hold all castles and Greeks just encircled Castel Rosso (Karystos). Many other details.
