Erasmus’ translations of two Euripides plays, Hecuba / Εκάτη & Iphigenia in Aulis / Ιφιγένεια εν Αυλίδι. Translation in Latin until pp.167, title page in Greek [pp.169] and original text in Greek until pp.293. Finely wood engraved initials. Froben’s printer devise on title page and colophon.

Fine late.19th century binding by the celebrated binder Roger De Coverly with his stamp “R. De. Coverly” on paste down end-paper. Dark brown dyed Morocco, covers and spine with fine blind decorations, title in gilt, gilt turn-in decorations, all edges gilt. Very fine conditional with just light toning. Ex libris label “from the library of George Dunn of Woolley Hall near Maidenhead”, Fine ex-libris label in gilt “Βιβλιοθήκη Σπ. Λοβέρδου”, auction’s paper strip attached on free end-paper with indication “…Sold in Sir M. Sykes’s sale for 10l. 15s.”
