Folio, complete: Pictorial lithographed title page, leaf of dedication to Duc de Mortemart, 2 pages with introductory text, 63 leaves with lithographed explanatory texts accompanying 62 tinted lithographed plates.

Louis Hector de Bearn accompanied Duc de Mortemart on a mission to Turkey addressed by the French government, following the Russian campaign against Turkey, in the war sparked by the Greek War of Independence. The 62 rare plates illustrate their journey from Poland to Volhynia, Podolia, Bessarabia, and Turkey including wonderful views, especially from Odessa, Sevastopol and Varna.

Contemporary half leather, wih restorations on covers. Wear along extremities, spine and front joint foot. Tear on the dedication leaf, creased the introductory leaf, spotting & damp-staining throughout.

Blackmer, refers to a Gennadius’ note that indicates only 100 copies, presumably all presented by the author.
