Febure, a Venetian who lived for many years in the Levant, provides a very early 17th century account of the Ottoman empire, in the zenith of its power. He describes in details every aspect of the Levant: the administration of the empire, its multinational society, the structure of the army, the judicial system, the religions, customs, every day life, specially focussing in the trade, as an active member of the Levantine mercantile society.
