VANDERMAELEN P., “Partie de la Grece”, [Northern AEGEAN], Brussels c.1828. Detailed lithographic map, 66x51cm, of a large part of Greece, from Thessaloniki to Athens and up to Asia Minor coastline, focused on Northern Aegean. Very good condition. From the extremely rare “Atlas de l’Europe”, published in less than 200 copies. After the success of Vandermaelen’s “Atlas Universelle”, published in 1827, the Belgian cartographer started the subscriptions for an Atlas of Europe, in a much more detailed scale. It was finally a commercial failure and less than 200 copies had ever issued. This is perhaps the last map presenting the Greek lands under administrative divisions.
