[BESSELING H], “Hendendaags ATHENEN van t norden te zien”, [Utrecht 1740]. Copper engraved map, 35x30cm, of Athens, drawn from the north towards the seashore. Folded as issued. Fine condition. The map is based on the map of Spon, drawn from Lycabettus hill in 1676, but altered in some places and bears Dutch explanations. The engraved map has been drawn by the well known cartographer & engraver Herman Besseling, for a work on Greece published in Utrecht, as it is attested by the contact between Cornelis Westerbaen (the publisher) and Besseling (found in the Dutch archives). Not in Zacharakis. Very rare.
