TARTINIUS-FRANCHIUS (publisher) / LAMI G. (cartographer): "ATHENAE-ATTICAE". Florence 1741. Large 60x39cm extremely rare copper engraved map of Athens. Folded as issued, frayed at edges, light miss-folds around, one small tear in the right site without loss, otherwise a good copy with sharp image. The map, drawn in Florence by Giovanni Lami, is clearly based on the famous first accurate modern map of Athens, the map of Capuchin monks drawn in 1672. Lami (1697-1770), an Italian antiquarian, has prepared this map of Athens for a special publication for Greece prepared by the Florentine Typographers Tartinius-Franchius. It has been published, according the relevant data, in less than 200 copies and very few seem to survive. Not in Zacharakis. EXTREMELY RARE
