Henniker F., “Notes during a visit to Egypt, Nubia, the Oasis, Mount Sina and Jerusalem”, London, 1823. First edition. In 8vo (23x15cm). Complete 340pp. & the 3 plates (including two fine folding aquatints). Later 19th century spine over contemporary boards, some scattered browning, overall very good. Henniker visited Eastern Mediterranean in 1820. He was the first who climbed the second Pyramide. After Egypt, he continued to the monastery of Saint Catherine in Sina and Jerusalem. In his return trip, he visited Cyprus, Rhodes, Smyrna, Athens, Hydra and Constantinople. This travel account is one of the very first ever published by Murray (who became the main publisher of British travel books during 19th century). Not in Atabey or Blackmer. Very Rare.
