[San Felice, cartogr.] /ALBRIZZI (publ.), "Citta di SCIO, conquistata dale armi della Seren. Republica di Venezia, li 15 Settemb. 1694.", Venezia, Albrizzi, n.d. but November 1694. Splendid map (38x22cm) of the city of Chios, drawn during the short occupation of the island by the Venetians (1694/5) and published to accompany the very rare book: "Distintissima descrittione della Citta,Porto e Isola di Scio conquistata li 15 Settembre 1694". Only one edition appeared and definitely in very small print run, as the Turkish reoccupation in early 1695, made useless any further celebration and distribution of the book. The map is very accurate, and it is almost certainly drawn by a Venetian cartographer on the spot. As San Felice, the chief engineer and cartographer, was present in the 1694 occupation of the island, it is more than probable that the current map is a result of his works. One of the rarest map of Chios island. It has been immediately republished separately, in a luxurious edition and in larger size, by Rossi in Roma probably in December 1694 (lot…), also in very small print run for the same reason. Not in Zacharakis or any other reference. Two copies tracked in public institutions worldwide. Extremely rare.
