This set is the most omplete edition about this period of the history of France. It is the definitive work on Napoleon and his times at the helm of the French Nation, written by no less than the first President of the Third Republic. Thiers moved in the highest circles of society and met with many of the surviving generals and statesmen of France and her opponents and wove their recollections into this monumental history. This first volume begins with Napoleon’s 1797 campaign to his ascent to the consulate in 1800. Volume 20 contains a full registry of all volume’s engravings with documentation. Volume 21 contains the general table of contents and an index. Binding in half blue shagreen leather on covers and smooth spine, with raised bands, gilded title and volume number. Inside light foxing and occasional spotting. Overall a very fine copy.
