BAKER Samuel, "Cypern im Jahre 1879", Leipzig, 1880. 8vo, pp.xviii, 385. Complete, including a full-page coloured lithograph map of Cyprus. Contemporary green publishers cloth. Samuel Baker visited Cyprus the year following British annexation. He spent several months and described almost every corner of the island with comments on the coexistence of Christians and Muslims, all which were speaking Greek. He was travelling in a gypsy van and his travel account, full of topographical and political comments, is extremely precious as it is the image of Cyprus left after 3 centuries of Ottoman rule.
