Complete, engraved portrait, 548p., 251p., 284p., 293p. 76p., 54p., 53p., 347p., and one copper engraved plate, contemporary leather over boards, internally clean, overall very good. Jacob Bjornstahl (1731-1779), a Swedish orientalist, Greek philologist and manuscript collector, travelled extensively around Europe. He visited three times Greece, visiting Thrace, Constantinople, Thessaly and Macedonia, where he died (in Thessaloniki) in July 1779. A partial fragmented edition of his previous travel accounts had been translated in German and published before his death .The full precious travel account of his most important last trip in Thessaly and Macedonia in 1778-79, had reached Stockholm by his companions in early 1780 and had been published only in Swedish with all his accounts (this edition). Not in Atabey ,Blackmer or any other known collection. Extremely rare.
