Bracebridge S., “Notes of a Panoramic sketch of Athens”, 1839. First and only edition. Small Folio, 28x23cm. Original dark green cloth covers, slightly rubbed, complete 8p.of text (explanation of plate) and the multi folded IMPRESSIVE PANORAMA OF ATHENS, measuring almost three (3) meters (271cm x 26,5cm). Printed in three sections and united in 13 attached portions of approx. 27x21cm each. Slightly frayed at some edges and splits, split along most folds, so several parts detached, but all present, forming a impressive Panorama of Athens and Attica. Overall clean and good. Mrs Bracebridge, resident of Athens in the very first years of Greek independence, had already drawn another sketch of Athens, published in 1836, in aid of the fund for the building of the Anglican Church. This new drawing, taken from a different position, near Pnika and the church of St Demetrius the Bombardier (Lombardiaris), offer an almost 360 degrees view of Athens and Attica, as it looked in May 1839. A fine view, of the new capital and unbuilt natural landscape of Attica. Very few of these independent fragile and splendid Panoramas have survived and are Extremely rare. Blackmer 193, not in Atabey.
