Schlumberger G. “Expedition des Almugavares ou Routiers Catalans en Orient de l’an 1302 a l’an 1313”, Paris 1902. First edition, first issue (in large 8vo), 22x15cm, contemporary leather over boards, slightly rubbed. Inside some light scattered spotting in title and the two first pages, overall very clean and very good copy. Complete, 396p. and a folding map. The Catalan company expedition in the Levant, in the early 14th century is an invaluable source and a travel account for Greece and Asia Minor in early days, as the Catalans left accounts of their expedition. These accounts scientifically collated and edited by the leading Byzantinist Schlumberger, are precious not only for the historical events referred, but also for the populations, topography, customs and roads described. The first edition of this book is scarce.
