Madame Carla Serena, “Hommes et choses en Perse”, Paris, 1883. In 8vo, 18x12cm, contemporary vellum over boards, a fine binding for its time, ex libris of the Compte de Thanberg, preserving original paper covers, some scattered light spotting, 351p. and several illustrations as called for, overall very good. Carla Serena (1820-1884) traveled widely to the Levant and published several accounts. As a solo western European lady traveler, a real explorer of the Levant attracted attention and her works have been very praised. This travel account is very fundamental for the understanding of the Persian society of the 19th century. RARE
