Castellan A., “Lettres sur la Grece, l’Hellespont et Constantinople”, Paris, 1811. FIRST edition. Two parts in one volume. 8vo, 20x13cm, pp. 171, 236 and 20 copper engraved plates (one detached but present). Contemporary leather over boards, slightly rubbed, interior clean. A very good copy. Castellan, a member of the French military mission, travelled several times to Greece and the Levant between 1796 and 1804. His precise accounts are full of information for Greece of the 1800s. Publication was delayed as the author preferred to engrave his own plates. Atabey 206, Blackmer 299.
