Powszechnego Magazynu, “KOSMORAMA EUROPY – TURKYA”, Warszawa, 1841-42 and 1844. First and only edition. Several magazines bound in two volumes, pp.1-184, 1-286, 185-428, 1-90, one folded map of Greece and the Balkans in one volume and one lithographed plate of a Turk in the other one. 4to, 25x19cm, contemporary leather over boards. An extremely rare collection of independently published Polish magazine-pamphlets regarding the Levant. These magazines had been published in Warszawa from c.1835 up to 1848, to accompany as pamphlets the Kosmorama spectacles held in Warszawa. The Kosmorama was a kind of early cinema, where several pictures were displayed to the crowd, representing several countries. Generally, these spectacles were organized by country. After the spectacle, the people could buy magazines-pamphlets with the country’s history, people, geography etc. The lithographed map of the Balkans titled: Panstwo Turkcie i Krolestmo Grerkie (state of Turkey and Kingdom of Greece), must be the first map of independent Greece printed in Polish. The magazines contain a lot of information for the history, geography, people and societies of the Levant (published in parts, but all parts present). The second volume contains, at the end, a detailed account for Jan Sobieski (a Polish king and national hero) and his exploits against the Turks and Tatars in the Balkans in late 17th century. A fine collection of Polish material for the Levant. EXTREMELY RARE
