With one extra plate (p.238), not announced, with a new discovery of English gentlemen who could decipher the Greek inscription on Pompeys pillar, "which none of the French savens appear even to have attempted". In this book, Walsh traces the vicissitudes of the British expeditionary force under Sir Ralph Abercromby which sailed across the Mediterranean, its subsequent defeat of the French, and its occupation of Egypt in 1800-01. The books illustrations are by the English engraver and cartographer Samuel John Neele (1758-1824). Industrial, half leather binding, thick carton marbled boards; spine slightly worn, titles in gilt. Textpages partly browned, but clean and tight. Overall, a complete and good copy - Abbey Travel 266 ; Blackmer 1767.
