A key study along the interpretation and restoration of the Parthenon frieze. This is the first published work of the famous German classical scholar Adolf Michaelis. Michaelis travelled to Greece with Alexander Conze in 1859-60. After the publication of this monograph on the Parthenon, he accepted the chair for Classical Archaeology at the University of Strasbourg. Text volume includes many plans / sketches / images in text and a folding plate of Parthenon’s friezes. Contemporary binding.
