Asiae Minoris Veteris et Novae, itemque Ponti Euxini et Paludis Maeotidis Mappa val Tabula”, 1743. Rare map of Greece, Asia Minor and the Black Sea, created by J. M. Hase and issued by Homman Heirs in 1743. The map is centered on the Black Sea, extends south to Cyprus and Crete and north to Crimea & the sea of Azov. Impressive in size and design cartouche on the upper left depicting Hercules fighting the Amazons [Ηρακλής και Αμαζόνες] and Hesioni [Ησιόνη] fastened and tied before a Troy temple. Johann Matthias Hase (1684-1742) was a German cartographer, geographer, mathematician & astronomer. He worked for Homann Heirs and produced impressive maps. Contemporary hand-colouring. Two very small holes, few brown spots. Tear on upper part of middle-fold covered with contemporary paper on reverse, signs of waterstain on lower right & left edges, one vertical crease along middle-fold. Zacharakis 1662.
