The first page of each issue is decorated with a full-page coloured composition and numerous woodcuts inside. The satirical magazine "Petit journal pour rire" was initially issued by Charles Philipon in Paris, 1856. It contains numerous lithographs and sketches designed by the most famous cartoonists of the time like Nadar, Doré, Marcelin, Randon , Pierre-Paul Comba, Chagot, Stop, Lefils, Tronsens and many others. The coloured designs of each issues first page were designed by Alfred Grévin (1827-1892) who founded in 1882 the famous "Musée Grévin". Contemporary binding: leather spine, marbled boards.
