Ricard, ornées de cartes, bas-reliefs et de portraits daprès lantique”, Paris, Aug. Dubois / Imprimerie de Firmin Didot Freres, 1832. Large 4to (32,5 x 24,2 cm), pp. 234 [2]. Text by Dominique Ricard entirely devoted to the life and the Empire of Alexander the Great. UNIQUE COPY with the indication of front cover “Exemplaire d’artiste”. It includes 5 maps designed by the French cartographer Auguste Henri Dufour and engraved by Maysi, Richard Walh, Flahaut. The maps are UNIQUE. They were designed between 1827-1828 and included just in the current ‘Exemplaire d’artiste’ copy, as they are absent from all issues of the current work, and none of them was able to be tracked on any collection or edition. The map of the Alexandre the Great Empire was issued later (1840 and later) under Dufour’s name with many differences. A list of the maps titles provided above: "Plan du passage & Combat du Granique, par A. H. Dufour, Geographe 1827" “Plan de la bataille D’ Issus. Dressee d’apres Arrien et Plutarque, par A. H. Dufour, Geographe 1827” “Plan de TYR et de ses environs Dresse d’apres Strabon, par A. H. Dufour, Geographe 1828” “Plan Topographique et Stratographique de la Bataille D’ Arbeles, par A. H. Dufour, Geographe 1827” “Empire et Marches d’ Alexandre, dresses par A. H. Dufour, Geographe, Grave par Flahaut. 1827” Also includes 16 engravings of which 14 out of text with most of the designs printed two times, mirrored (reversed). These engravings, most designed by Perry and engraved by Lefevre, were not included in any of the current work normal issues. Half cloth binding, original coloured paper boards conserved. Spotting throughout, partly cracked hinge, some of the plate sheets free, few sheets loose. Unique copy.
