Includes in separate chapters, the history of Roman, Greek, Egyptian, and Eastern perfumery, and more. Due to the famous perfumer, inventor of "rimmel", the first industrial eyelash shadow, this fundamental work traces the history of perfumes in all civilizations from antiquity to the publication of the book. Explored here are the first developed methods and secrets that are still a reference today. Abundant documentation on the origin and historical or even mythological, background for such methods and ingredients. Volume displays medium wear and aging to covers and interior. Publishers red buckram covers feature blind stamped gilt text, illustration and filigree, on front and back. Boards have bevelled edges, displaying moderate overall edgewear, with rubbing and exposed boards at corners, that are also slightly bumped. Spine features text and gilt decoration, and exhibits some sunning with moderate rubbing at ends. Binding is still tight, yet fragile with a little play. Illustration plates are protected with following blank page, and are well preserved showing mild toning. Interior is gently age-toned, showing occasional foxing.
