In 1781, François-Ambroise Didot sought approval for a new work: a collection of Ancient Moralists, dedicated to the King. The work was published in 18 volumes and completed in 1795. This is the 10th book, with reference to lyric poets Theognis and Phocylide, along with Pythagoras and the sages of Greece (Thales, "Golden verses attributed to Pythagoras", Demophile, Democrat, etc.), all collected, presented and translated by Pierre-Charles Levesque, Hellenist and historian of vast scholarship. Binding in half green Morocco, smooth spine, title in gilt (red label), carton boards, slightly bumped on edges. Spatial foxing and spotting inside, untrimmed pages, clean and tight though. Very Good copy.
