The translations by Anne Dacier (1645-1720) was influential for a long time. Excellent hellenist, trained by her father, the scholar Tanneguy Lefèvre, she brings to the translation, rigour, precision and approval. This fifteen-year work earned her to enter the word ‘traductrice’ in the dictionary. She will defend with all her energy the legacy of Homer during the second argument of the Anciens et des Modernes, facing among others Houdar de la Motte (1714-1715). Contemporary full leather binding, 5 nerves spines, with gilt titles and floral ornaments, embossed boards’ edges; rather rubbed extremities, bumped corners, joints in good condition, solid hinges, some superficial scratches on the covers.
