Θεσσαλονίκη Α’ Παγκόσμιος Πόλεμος / Salonica Front, 1st World War. Rare photographic album containing 227 photographs of which 146 depict various scenes from Thessaloniki c.1917. The photographs sizes vary from 17x12.5cm to 4x4cm with almost all Thessaloniki photographs being of large size. The photographs are taken from a most probably French officer, serving in Macedonia or Salonica Front of the 1st World War and depict magnificent street views, scenes of everyday life, monuments, including photographs of the Saint Demetrius before and after the destructive fire of 1917. Some photographs depict refugies (probably from Macedonia and the Balkans) temporarily housed in city’s churches. The photographs are pasted on thick cartons. Cloth covers and spine. External wear along extremioties and joints, some of the photographs faded.
