As stated in Blackmer “The work appeared originally in Italian at Corfu in 1842. The journey took place in 1841: most of the narrative is concerned with Egypt. The last section is on Corfu. From 1821 to 1841 the author seems to have traversed the whole of Europe more or less as a concert singer, and in Paris he attached himself to Rossini. The events of 1821 mentioned on the title refer to the troubles in Naples in that year”. [Blackmer 589]
