One of the best 16th-century edition of Thucydides, the first with parallel Greek / Latin text. Second Estienne edition, with Estienne correcting the Greek text and scholia, as well as further revising Valla’s Latin translation. This is the first work oriented with parallel Greek original text and Latin translation, while the Greek scholia are printed at the foot of the pages. Also including analytical indexes. Contemporary full-leather, with evident restorations. Blind-stamped decorations in gilt on both covers, spine with raised bands and decorations & title in gilt. Boards & spine rubbed and soiled, cracks along spine, restoration efforts mainly along joints and extremities. Interior: chipped upper edges of the first ~40 sheets, light water-stain on the right edge – more evident on first 40 sheets, small worm-holes more evident on first 20 & last 30 sheets.
