Engraved portraits of  Aldus et Paulus Manutius as frontispieces, 7 folding fac-similes, 2 full page printers marks, title vignettes.

The authors was an industrialist and political activist in Paris at the time of the French Revolution who became a book delar, printer and bibliographer. In this book he gave us an early history of the Manutius family and the Aldine Press, which would remain the most essential guide to the press throughout the 19th century.

Contemporary half leather (red) binding, back with 4 raised bands, gilt title on spine; red clothed boards, visibly rubbed. Occasional foxing inside, clean and sound overall. Rare and Very Good copy.
