First state of this stunning map of Cyprus, from Abraham Ortelius “Theatrum orbis terrarium”, 1579 edition by Christophorus Plantinus (collated with the copy of the National Library of the Netherlands). It is considered one of the best maps of Cyprus made to date, with the geographical information derived from the cartographical work of Jacomo Franco (c.1570). Interestingly on lower right corner an inset map of Lemnos map is included with the geographical information derived from the work of Pierre Belon.Cross-folded. Contemporary full hand-colouring. Light water-stain on right part (mainly marginal), marginal tears on right & left edges of fold, signs of glue on the margins extremities, paper strip reinforcinglower part of middle-fold on verso.
