Peter Martyr dAnghiera, was an Italian historian at the service of Spain during the Age of Exploration, famous for his chronicles of the Spanish expeditions to America. In 1501 he was sent to Egypt on a diplomatic mission in order to protect the Christians in Egypt and Palestine from the Sultan’s vengeance, following the defeat of the Moors in Spain. The outcome of his visit was finally successful. The current edition is a very rare early translation in Italian of this diplomatic account.
