An early, 16th century, edition of a classical work with extensive notes and contemporary commentaries. Aulus Gellius, a Latin author was educated in Athens and his only known work, Noctes Atticae (Athens nights) takes its name from having been written during the long winter nights that the author spent in Athens. It is a compilation of notes of history, philosophy and grammar and provides a vivid picture of the Athenian society of the 2nd century AC. Modern binding, marginal water stained in the last pages of notes.
