(publisher, cartographer), “Bybelsche huis en zak-Atlas: bestaande naauwkeurige en net afgezette landkaartjes”, Amsterdam n.d., but c.1776-1780. First and only edition of an extremely rare Atlas of Sacred Geography. Complete with 15 maps, in 8vo. All maps (23x19cm approx.) fine and clean. Includes maps of Greece (Zacharakis 3756d, under ‘unidentified’), Asia Minor with Cyprus, Eastern Aegean and Thrace (Not in Zacharakis), Eastern Black sea with Caucasus and of many places of Middle East. Bruyn published a Geography of the Bible and a History of the Bible, both in 1776. This Atlas was intended to accompany the Geography book and the maps were drawn by Jacob van der Schley, the best Dutch cartographer of that time. The Atlas seem that was not ready when the Geography appeared, and finally published separately later (between 1776-1780) and in very small print run. Only two copies survive in public institutions worldwide (Dutch National Library and Newberry). This Atlas is also very important, as it is represents the last printed set of copper engraved Sacred Geography Biblical maps that ends a series of publications started with Bochart’s “Geographiae Sacrae” almost 150 years earlier. Extremely rare.
