Prince Grigori Gagarine, from the Atlas: Le Caucase pittoresque, Paris 1847. Prince Grigori Gagarine (1810-1893) was a Russian painter, Major General and administrator. He travelled all around Caucasus in the early 1840s creating unique views of the Caucasian landscape and its people. These views, were printed separately via several livraisons in Paris from 1847 and onwards. They are considered really important and very rare works on Caucasus. The following two views are coming from the private collection of Sarkis Boghossian, famous French librarian of the late 20th century with Armenian origin, who published the significant catalogue / bibliography on the Armenian prints & engravings entitled “Iconographie Armenienne”. The current two views are the numbers 843 and 861 of this catalogue (Iconographie Armenienne, volume II, Paris 1998) presenting his own pencil marks. “Tiflis, Vu du jardin botanique”, lithographed by Bayot and Ciceri, after Gagarine.39x30cm in 57x40cm.
