made by a painter during 1854/55 showing landscapes in Bosphorus and Black Sea coastal areas. Seven of them bear handwritten captions/dates in French. All preserved in very good condition and intact. Four depicts Bosphorus channel views, two the Greek monastery of St Georges in Crimea, one Varna bay in Bulgaria, two Trebizond in Turkey and one fishing in the Black sea. Although unsigned, the drawings can be attributed (in compare with his other contemporary works and style) to Leon Francois Pasquis (1816-1890), a French painter who travelled in Black sea in 1854/55 during the Crimean war. The drawings are:1.Varna, Juin 1854: The Allied fleet in the bay of Varna, just before the Crimean landing operations.2.Vue prise du Monastere de Saint George: Splendid view of the Crimean promontory (Kriou Metopon) painted from the Greek monastery.3.Fontaine du couvent de Saint George, Crimee 1855: Fine painting of the Byzantine fountain of the monastery, in the place of a Greek ancient temple4.Fishing in the Black sea 5.Probably Trebizont’s port, painted from the east. Clearly depicts the Byzantine castle of Leontokastro (Gusel Hisar) and the port of Dafnounta, in 1854/556.Most probably Trebizont, painted from the west. Clearly depicts the medieval Byzantine middle town and the Pontic mountains in the background.7.Ancienne forteresse Genoise dans le Bosphore, Cote d Asie: Fine view of the Byzantine castle of Iero (Yoros-Anadolukavagi) in the Bosphorus, 8.Vue d une forteresse dans le Bosphore, Cote d Asie: Nice view of a late 18th century small castle, with Turkish flag, in the Bosphorus upper straits. 9.Forteresse Turque a l entrée du Bosphore par la mer noire, cote d Asie10.Fanal d Asie, entrée du Bosphore par la mer noire: Fine view of the lighthouse in the entrance of Bosphorus from the Anatolian side and the adjacent village (Anadolufeneri).
