Very rare account including a general description and everyday life of early 18th century Constantinople. The author had been sent to the Levant to ransom Christians taken captive by pirates. A list of captives names and the number of years they spent in slavery is included at the end of the numbered sheets.
Contemporary full leather, spine with raised bands. Heavy external rubbing and small chipped parts of spine’s and boards extremities and corners. Interior tight, firm and mostly clean with only occasional spotting. Tear on last 2 printed and 3 blank leaves. Ex libris label “Alberti Helbig Byzantini” on paste down end-paper. Like the Atabey’s and Blackmer’s copy, the current copy is missing the folding map.
