Impressive and rare German publication about the Russo-Turkish War 1828–29. It includes:

a folding frontispiece of Adrianople,3 full-page portraits of Tsar Nicholas I of Russia, General Graf Diebitsch Sabalskansky, General Graf Laskewitsch Grivansky, two (2) rare folding maps of the Balkans-Thrace (41x47cm) & the Black Sea (44x48cm) covering in details the important facts of the War and entitled “Geographisch historische Karte des Kriegsschauplatzes in Asien in den Jahren 1828 u. 1829”an impressive folding view from the Battle of Navarin (45x41cm) entitled “Seeschlacht von Navarin den 20ten October 1827 / H.W. Eberhand”.

The Russo-Turkish War of 1828–1829 was sparked by the Greek War of Independence of 1821–1829. War broke out after the Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II closed the Dardanelles to Russian ships and revoked the 1826 Akkerman Convention in retaliation for Russian participation in October 1827 in the Battle of Navarino. The current book was published just after the signing of the Treaty of Adrianople (1829), that resulted to the recognition from Turkey of the independence or autonomy of Greece.

Baron von Ehrenkreutz (ca. 1786-ca. 1866) is a somewhat mysterious person. He seems to have pursued careers as a military officer and as a writer, although he also had pretensions to a title of nobility.

Contemporary binding: simple paper boards. Spotting throughout, cracked spine, large tear on one map and repaired tear on Battle of Navarino view.

Very Rare edition of the War that was caused by the Greek War of Independence and resulted in the recognition of Greek independence by the Turks.
