Charles Le Beau (1701-1778) was a French historical writer, best known for his work “Histoire du Bas-Empire en commençant à Constantin le Grand”, printed in French in 1757. This important work, is a continuation of Charles Rollins Histoire Romaine and JBL Creviers Histoire des empereurs.  Its usefulness arises entirely from the fact of its being a faithful resume of the Byzantine historians. Five volumes were added by H.-P. Ameilhon (1781–1811), which brought the work down to the fall of Constantinople.

Clothed spines, with gilted title, carton covers of the period. Slight wear. Clean and tight inside, apart from scattered spotting and foxing. Very good copy overall.
