WHITSED J. de Key, “Come to the Cook-House Door!: a V.A.D. in Salonika”, Herbert Joseph & John Street Adelphi, 1932. In 12mo, p. 185. The book comprises the autobiography of Juliet de Key Whitsed, who served as a V. A. D. (Voluntary Aid Detachment) during World War I, in Salonika. Detailed and vivid narratives in the form of letters and diary entries. Publisher’s original red paper dust jacket with black lettering and silhouette of a bugle-player on the front panel, black lettering and ruled borders and a description of the book on the front flap. Volume is very good, with clean boards, corners without rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, and the interior is clean and bright; some sunning to the spine. Scarse and very good copy.
