“Vienna Assediata da Turchi e Liberata da Christiani”, dim. 47 x 55 cm: detailed plan of Vienna fortifications and surrounding landscape, highlighting 84 specific places named on an analytical key at the lower part. Repairs on the folding plate.

“Accampamento dell Essercito Turchesco sotto Vienna lanno 1683 descritto Geografica“, dim. 29 x 30 cm. Plan of Vienna’s surroundings during the siege and Battle of Vienna, with a key of 23 places.

This work is considered as the FUNDAMENTAL CONTEMPORARY SOURCE FOR THE TURKISH SIEGE OF VIENNA (Atabey). Conducted by Johann Peter Von Vaelckern, the official historiographer of the Court and eyewitness of the war incidents. His work, initially issued just after the end of the Battle and printed in Vienna (1683), spread the news in Europe and met great success with numerous successive editions and translations.

Contemporary vellum soiled. Slightly worn inside mainly on pages edges, some waterstains. Former ownership signature and date in an Italian hand on front free end-paper.
