The British physician Charles Perry, travelled to France, Italy, Egypt, Palestine, Constantinople and Greece between 1739 and 1742. Perry’s account is considered one of the earliest focusing on Egyptian antiquities, and it contains rare sketches of Egyptian artefacts and plans of archaeological sites. He also includes valuable information about the administrative structure of the Ottoman Empire, as well as interesting observations made along his journeys through Greece and the Aegean archipelago. Rare.
Ex-libris label on front and rear end papers. Spotting. Contemporary leather covers with extensive rubbing. Spine rebacked (fine calf with blind-stamped decorations in gilt).
