Bulgaria has had three periods as an independent power centre and this book is about the first, from the settlement of the Slavs (6th cent.) to the early Christianisation (10th cent.). Relatively rare material is explored here, but this book did mark its author as a lively writer. He did continue in the area and both Crusading, and Byzantine studies do not begrudge the man his knighthood.

Original maroon cloth, with illustrated dustwrapper (some wear on front). Page edges slightly browned, binding sound, text unmarked. Scarse and Good copy.
