Rycaut P., “The History of the Turks. Beginning with the Year 1679… until the End of the Year 1698, and 1699… which compleats the Sixth and Last Edition of the History of the Turks”, London, Printed for Robert Clavell and Abel Roper, 1700, 5 parts in 2 volumes. FIRST edition. Big Folio 40x26cm, pp. [6] 605p. [8] and 6 more engraved plates, as called for. Contemporary calf, rebacked, rubbed, sides scuffed, restoration to extremities, few repairs to margins, internally clean and bright. Engraved portrait of Rycaut. A very good copy. A continuation of the history of the Turkish Empire, including the recent events of the war between the European League and the Ottoman Empire up to the treaty of Karlowitz. This independent volume forms practically the last volume of the first collected edition of Rycaut histories. Inscription on spine: “vol.2”, but it is a completely separate publication (for this reason it is auctioned separately). It includes a lot of first hand contemporary information for Greece, as the country was a scene of the Turkish-Venetian war. Atabey 1077 (separate lots also), Blackmer 1466 (in one lot and reference). Atabey’s two copies had 15 only engraved plates together, Blackmer 26 plates (current offered copies have 27 plates together).
