The complete sheet with two (2) maps from the famous “Peutinger Table”, presenting the Roman road network of the world. M. Welser first published a copy based on the original manuscript at Aldus Manutius in Venice at 1591. The first map extents from the northern shores of Africa to North Europe cantered on Greece and the Balkans. Macedonia and Thrace are highlighted and significantly enlarged and Thessalonica depicted as the largest town. The second map extents from Egypt and Middle East to Caucasus centred on Turkey. It presents Constantinople as capital, Aegean with Crete & Rhodes excessively enlarged. Map dim.51x40cm. Tears 5cm & 1.5cm on upper part, 2cm & 0.5cm on middle-fold and 4 smaller tears (2 on middle fold). Self adhesive tape on verso. Overall fair condition. RARE. Zacharakis 3688.
