A. Z. Stephanopoli, “Le facteur Grec dans le probleme oriental / Association l’Hellenismos”, Athenes: impr. Anestis Constantinidis, 1896. In 16mo, p. 30. Original paper covers, visible age wear, very good inside. Authentic stamp of the (probably secret) Company “Hellenismos” (“Εταιρεία Ο Ελληνισμός”) on front cover and title page. Uncut copy. RARE.
According to the principles of the association its aim was to “explore and heal the rights of Hellenism, through precise on-the-ground and any other religious and scientific study or knowledge of the Hellenic world…”. This Company’s emblem was the “regenerated palm” and had two periods of action: 1892 – 1915 and 1923 – 1936. These activities essentially ceased in 1936 with the death of the lifelong presidenτ, Prof. Neocles Kazazis of the University of Athens.
It is noted, however, that in the Greek-Turkish War of 1897 “Hellenismos” equipped, at its own expense, Italian anarchist’s Tsipriani’s forthcoming philhellenic body.
