A thorough overview of the naval tactics during the Ottoman invasion in Cyprus in 1570 and the Naval Battle of Lepanto (Ναυμαχία Ναυπάκτου, 1571), conducted by the French Admiral Jurien de la Graviere, commander of the French Mediterranean fleet in 1870 and later director of French charts. His experience in the naval history of the area is mirrored in the detailed charts of the naval battle formations as well as the insights of the tactics offered in the thick descriptive text.
