[ΘΕΣΣΑΛΟΝΙΚΗ-ΑΝΑΤΟΛΙΚΗ ΣΤΡΑΤΙΑ] PRICE G. WARD, “THE STORY OF THE SALONICA ARMY / Illustrated”, Hodder and Stoughton, London-New York-Toronto, 1917. 1st Edition, in 12mo, xiii+298pp. With frontispiece, 5 b/w images out of text and map/sketch of Salonica Army on front end paper. A contemporary historical & operational account that gives a good idea of the conditions of the long-drawn Salonika Campaign, which began on 5 October 1915 with the landing of the 10th (Irish) Division and French 156th Division at the port of Salonika. The rationale for sending troops to the Balkans was to deter Bulgaria from joining Germany and Austria-Hungary in an attack on Serbia. Author was Official Correspondent with the Allied Forces in the Balkans. Original red cloth, titled in black on front and spine (rather dull); slight external wear. Ex libris stamp. Clean and tight inside, along with page browning; untrimmed. Good condition in general.
