Edited by Isaac Kaufmann Funk, an American Lutheran minister, editor, lexicographer, publisher and co-founder of Funk & Wagnalls Company. This standard Dictionary of the English Language was Funks most important achievement, first published in 1893. His aim was to provide essential information thoroughly and simply at the same time.

Richly illustrated throughout, with colour plates with tissue guards, along with smaller images in text. Full leather bound, with gilt embossed decoration and spine lettering. Visible wear, spine detached, boards rubbed and corner bumped; humidity over whole lower part. Internally very well preserved, binding tight, pages bright and generally clean with scattered spotting. Fresh images, except of water stain along lower parts. Rare and early One Volume copy.
