Illustrated with numerous b/w. photographs and maps, 14 pages of coloured plates, references, index. The No 21 (City of Melbourne) Squadron was formed as a Citizen Air Force squadron 3 years before the outbreak of WWII and saw service as a fighter squadron in the defence of Malaya, then as a dive bomber and heavy bomber squadron operating out of New Guinea and the Northern Territory. After the cessation of hostilities in 1945, the squadron reverted to its original role as a reserve unit and flew Mustangs and Vampires until its flying days ceased in the 1960s. Since then it has operated as a support unit for the RAAF. Original blue cloth, title lettered in black on spine; original illustrated dustjacket, slightly worn. Signed by author on title page.
